Book a ConsultationWelcome to Cheshire Eye Doctor
Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Nick Hickley and I am an Ophthalmologist.
The aim of this website is to give you, my patients, more information about me, what operations and treatments I offer and hopefully lots of really useful information about what to expect before, during and after your operation.
An Ophthalmologist or ’eye doctor’ is someone who specialises in treating all manor of different eye conditions. Believe it or not there are actually 10 different areas or what we call ’subspecialties’ in Ophthalmology. In particular I specialise in eyelid surgery (also known as oculoplastic surgery); both cosmetic and non-cosmetic, watery eyes (also known as lacrimal surgery) and cataract surgery.
Mr Nicholas Hickley MBChB FRCOphth
I grew up on the Wirral, studying at Birkenhead School followed by medical school at the University of Leeds.
After qualifying as a doctor I spent my first two years as a house officer in Yorkshire working in Harrogate and Leeds and then travelled to Cairns, Australia for a year working in Emergency Medicine. After proposing to my wife whilst on a trip to New Zealand, we returned to the Mersey region where I undertook my Ophthalmology training.
Here I worked at many prestigious hospitals including St Paul’s Eye Unit at Royal Liverpool and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. I subsequently completed by specialist training with two fellowships in oculoplastics, lacrimal and orbital surgery. The first was a year long fellowship within training at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and then the second was 18 months at Liverpool University Hospital.
Following this I took up my Consultant post at the Countess of Chester Hospital where I specialise in Oculoplastics, Cataract surgery and I am the clinical lead for the Emergency eye care service.
